1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
Sucked In By The World
The average home size in American in 1950 was 983 square feet and in 2018 it was just short of 2600 square feet. Average numbers of children under 18 in 1950 just short of 3.5 and 2018 – 1.9. The average home size has more than doubled while the average family size had plummeted. Plus, there is now a 22 Million Dollar Self-Storage industry with nearly 3 Billion Square Feet of Storage Space for the rest of the material positions owned by Americans!
The heart of man is shallow, it is narrow and is drawn to the things of the world. Because of our hearts, we are not capable of two loves at the same time (Matthew 6:24). The prince of this world is calling loudly with his temptations and our flesh has an affinity toward the love or lust of this world. This is not of the Father for He calls us from it. The love of the world draws our hearts away from loving God and leads to a total decay of the heart as we move further and further away from God. As we move further and further away from the love of God, ignore His Word and allow our prayer time to disappear, we also lose His protection allowing greater and greater deception from the devil and his demon subordinates.
Deceptions of Satan
The Old Deluder temps us just as he did Jesus in the desert; the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life. (1) The lust of the flesh – those things that inflame or excite the flesh or LUXURY, (2) lust of the eyes – riches, treasures and possessions or COVETOUSNESS, (3) pride of life – grandeur, glitz and glamour the glorious life; the desire for flattery and praise this is what we call AMBITION.
Satan and his false teachers are deceiving us (1 Timothy 6:5-10) leading us to believe in having our best life now or joining the next millionaire 300 conference!! Satan is tempting us with the love of the world while Jesus told us to take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23) and to expect the world to hate us, to persecute us and kill us because of His name (Matthew 24:9).
We must remember if we are washed in the blood of Christ our citizenship is in heaven, therefore, our desire should be for heaven and our eternal communion with our heavenly Father not the things of this world!
Where is your love?
